WebJun 4, 2013 · #1 While hiking in Anza Borrego Desert State Park yesterday, I saw this woodpecker. I'm unsure whether it's a Ladder-backed or Nuttall's Woodpecker. I've seen plenty of Nuttall's before, and this didn't really look like the ones I'm used to seeing. The noise it was making didn't really sound like any of the sounds I've heard them make either.
